Jan Kinder, RN,
HN-BC, CMT, is the founding director of The Jan Kinder Center for Health
and Well Being, LLC, in southern Florida, formerly The Self Centre
International, LLC in St. John, USVI. She is a licensed registered nurse
and board certified holistic nurse with a BA in psychology; certified
music therapist; credentialed Chopra Center Instructor in mind body
medicine/Ayurveda and meditation who has worked closely with Deepak
Chopra, MD and David Simon, MD since 1995; certified guided imagery
practitioner; certified ECaP facilitator by
Bernie Segal, MD, and Breathwalk instructor
certified by Guruchuran Khalsa,
PhD. She’s a master-level clinician in the musical development /
therapeutic philosophy of Dr. Carl Orff, classical pianist, composer, and
professional vocalist. She continues to broaden her work in sound
vibrational medicine with Fabien Maman and Terres Unsoeld as a
certified practitioner for Tama-Do: The Academy of Sound, Color and
Movement®.
On a personal note, Jan loves and is inspired by music,
unconditional love, life-long friendships, visionaries, helping others,
acts of kindness, nature, turquoise waters, and colorful sunsets.
Jan’s journey began in her formative years when she
started experimenting with music, meditation and yoga. Her studies and
practice in Eastern philosophies continue to be her lifelong passion.
Since 1977, she has guided adults and children through the experience of
meditation, mindbody approaches in medicine,
healing arts, guided imagery, music in medicine, music and vibrational
sound and color therapy, Ayurveda, expressive therapies, and stress
management. Her extensive background includes administration,
consultation, and program development and implementation.
After four years of hospital nursing, Jan elected to
explore an avenue for combining medicine, music and spirituality. During
the 1980s, she created and established comprehensive expressive arts
programs serving over 300 families at Turtle Bay Music School in New
York, and founded the music therapy/music in medicine program at Rusk
Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU Medical Center. In 1989, she
was invited to develop and conduct similar curriculums, including
comprehensive healing arts programs for St. John School of the Arts (SJSA),
USVI where she also served as Executive Director from 2006 - 2011.
In 1996, she founded the Mind Body Health Institute in
New Jersey, providing seminars, lectures and sessions in mind body
medicine/Ayurveda, meditation and sound healing. From 2000 – 2011, in
collaboration with Caneel Bay, A Rosewood
Resort, USVI, Jan established the Self Centre International at Caneel. After eleven inspiring years, the center
relocated to southern Florida.
As a conference presenter and professional speaker, she
has served various populations in hospital/medical settings;
corporations; universities; yoga, meditation and wellness centers; and
the private sector. Mindbodyspirit
interrelatedness and quality of life remain the themes of Jan’s personal
and professional life.
